Coaches/Parents,
I wanted to let everyone know that we will be trying out turf pitching mats in Perryville this weekend. The fields in Perryville are dirt but we will be placing turf pitching mats down on all of the fields. This is in an attempt to reduce the holes that form over the course of the game/day/event. There is a grounds crew, but as many of you know, even after "fixed" the holes reappear and cause issues for the pitchers.
It is my hope that using the mats will provide a level, consistent surface for the pitchers. I have spoken to other directors who have had continued success with the mats. They will be screwed into the field to reduce shifting and curling and from the research I have done should be a good experience.
Players are allowed to use metal (14B only) cleats. If you have any issues during the game please bring it to the attention of our staff. In addition, please let the staff know your thoughts about the mats after your games. The more feedback we can get, the better your experience will be in the future.
